Hello Michael
Trolling google, I came up with a few ideas:
1) Make sure the ODBC datasource is System DSN, not User DSN
2) Make sure the ODBC datasource is 32 bit
3) Try an OLE DB connection
4) Make sure the ODBC conection uses a default database, not Master
5) Make sure you are using hte latest DB client
6) Check your database documentation for the error
