Hi,
Background:
My client bought a new company (some business have SAP some not) and we are doing the fit gap workshops now to assess the current template fitment (ECC 6) . I need some help to hear from anyone who have handled similar requirements.
Scenario:
The existing Floc structure indicator used by the client is different from the ones currently being used by some of the new businesses. So, the question was asked whether Alternative labelling can be used to handle this.
My understanding so far:
I personally have not used Alt.labelling till now. So, when I read through the blogs & SAP help I understand the following.
1. Alternative labelling should be used with caution if it is not activated during the implementation stage.
2. Once alt. labelling is activated, it cannot be reversed.
3. When activated, the existing edit mask length (max. allowed length) gets increased from 30 to 40
4. If activated it could affect any enhancements in place.
Help required:
1. The expectation from the new business team is to retain their existing flocs since they are connected to their P&ID diagram and control systems. So, I am thinking of using their existing FLocs number and populate as Characteristics. Infact, I am thinking of using every critical info they need to bring over into the existing client template with this option. Do you think it is a good option from your experience?
2. Alternatively, can I use any custom user defined fields for this and populate the same? I am not sure how many custom defined fields SAP allows in Floc.
Appreciate your valuable inputs.
Cheers
