I was discussing with many customers these last weeks about the best options we could choose for SAP DataServices in terms of versions.
SAP customers which are using SAP EPM products (SAP BFC / ICS / BPC & PCM) and want to benefit of FIM for data integration are facing a support difficulty.
- One one hand SAP FIM only supports SAP DS 4.0 and 4.2 (since SP09). SAP DS 4.0 support ends in december 2013
- One the other hand SAP DS 4.2 was on rampup program only. So not all customers could access it and plan their upgrade program.
With the release of version 4.2 (according to SAP PAM, it's available since the 6th December), it may resolve this problem of support.
If you look at SAP Note 1740516, there is a lot of integration scenario for SAP DS 4.x depending of the version of SAP IPS / BI 4.x
This huge matrix can be reduced to a simple set of possibilities for SAP EPM products. Indeed, if you skip all configurations related to SAP DS 4.1 (which is not supported by EPM products) and SAP IPS / BI 4.1 which are also not supported by SAP EPM products, you may conclude that the only integration scenarios available for SAP DS 4.2 are :
- SAP DS 4.2 (Patch 0-1) with SAP IPS 4.0 SP05 (patch 0-15)
- SAP DS 4.2 (Patch 2-3) with SAP IPS 4.0 SP05 (patch 0-15)
Does anyone, involved in DS 4.2 RU program with SAP EPM products, already deployed one of these configuration on live system ?
In my humble opinion, customers should wait an official support of SAP IPS / BI 4.1 for EPM Products before moving to SAP DS 4.2 even if DS 4.0 supports ends this month.
What is the feeling of the EPM community ?
