Once I have faced such issue ether its same or other...
Error is : unable interpret * as number (as PO Page no from/to in smartform).
then I have checked page number variable it's length set to 1 i.e 1-9 accommodate easily for print
if it increased to 10 or above then * will be displayed instead of page no.
so this may also possible..please check variable length.
