Is there way to hide value of characteristic when I assign value to object using material class?

Hello Experts

There are 3 values(eq.X.Y.Z) in a characteristic.I want to display only 2 values(X.Y) out of 3 because we don't want user to select one value(Z). Is there way to hide one value(Z)?
